Skin Peels

Skin peels are professional skin treatments designed to improve tone, texture, clarity, and overall skin health by encouraging controlled exfoliation and renewal.

They work by applying a carefully selected chemical solution to the skin, which removes dead surface cells and stimulates the skin’s natural regeneration process.

At elixir medical, skin peels are tailored to your individual skin type and concerns, and can range from light, refreshing peels to deeper resurfacing treatments where clinically appropriate.

Skin peels are commonly used to improve uneven skin tone and texture, pigmentation, sun damage, fine lines, dullness, congestion, and acne prone skin.

Every appointment begins with a consultation where we assess your skin, discuss your concerns, review your skincare routine, and determine the most suitable type and depth of peel for you.

Not all peels are the same, and the strength of the peel used will depend on your skin condition, goals, and tolerance.

Once your treatment plan is agreed, the skin is cleansed and prepared before the peel solution is applied evenly to the treatment area.

During application, most clients experience a warm, tingling, or mildly stinging sensation, which is expected and closely monitored throughout the treatment.

The peel is left on the skin for a controlled period before being neutralised or removed, depending on the type of peel used.

Treatment time typically ranges from 30 to 60 minutes.

Downtime varies depending on the depth of the peel.

Light or superficial peels usually involve little to no downtime, with possible mild redness, tightness, or light flaking that settles within a few days.

Medium depth peels may cause visible peeling, dryness, and redness for several days, during which time the skin may feel tight or sensitive.

Deeper peels, where appropriate, involve more noticeable peeling and require stricter aftercare, which will always be discussed in advance so you know exactly what to expect.

Results develop as the skin sheds and regenerates, with improvements in brightness, texture, clarity, and evenness becoming more noticeable over the following days and weeks.

Skin peels can also enhance the effectiveness of your skincare products by allowing them to penetrate more effectively once dead skin cells have been removed.

Aftercare is an essential part of treatment and will be explained fully during your appointment.

This typically includes avoiding sun exposure, wearing a broad spectrum SPF daily, using gentle skincare products, and avoiding picking or peeling the skin.

Strenuous exercise, heat, and active skincare ingredients may need to be avoided for a short period depending on the peel used.

Skin peels are a medical treatment and suitability is always assessed, particularly if you have active skin conditions, infections, are pregnant, or are using certain medications.

Our approach is careful and considered, focusing on improving skin health safely rather than aggressively treating the skin.

If you would like to discuss whether a skin peel is right for you, a consultation allows us to talk everything through calmly and honestly before treatment, including peel choice, downtime, and aftercare.
