Microneedling (Dermapen)

Microneedling is a collagen induction treatment designed to improve skin texture, tone, and overall quality by stimulating the skin’s natural repair processes.

It works by creating controlled micro channels in the skin, which trigger the body’s healing response and encourage the production of new collagen and elastin.

At elixir medical, microneedling is carried out using the Dermapen, a medical grade device that allows precise control over depth and treatment intensity.

Microneedling is commonly used to improve fine lines, acne scarring, enlarged pores, uneven texture, redness, and general skin dullness.

It can be used on the face and other areas of the body where skin quality needs improvement.

Every appointment begins with a consultation where we assess your skin, discuss your concerns, review your medical history, and confirm that microneedling is the right treatment for you.

This assessment is important, as microneedling is tailored to your skin type and condition rather than performed at a fixed depth or intensity.

Once your treatment plan is agreed, the skin is cleansed and prepared.

The Dermapen is then passed over the skin using sterile, single use needle cartridges to create controlled micro channels.

During treatment, most clients experience a tingling or vibrating sensation, with some areas feeling more sensitive than others.

Discomfort is generally mild and well tolerated, and treatment depth can be adjusted for comfort where appropriate.

Treatment time typically ranges from 30 to 60 minutes depending on the areas being treated.

After treatment, the skin usually appears red and may feel warm or tight, similar to mild sunburn.

This redness is expected and typically settles within 24 to 48 hours.

Some clients may also experience mild swelling or sensitivity, which resolves as the skin heals.

Results develop gradually over 2 to 4 weeks as new collagen and elastin are produced and the skin regenerates.

For optimal results, a course of treatments may be recommended, and this will be discussed clearly so you understand the expected timeline.

Downtime is minimal, and most clients return to normal activities shortly after treatment.

Aftercare advice will be provided in full and usually includes avoiding strenuous exercise, excessive heat, sun exposure, and active skincare products for a short period.

Only gentle skincare products should be used while the skin is recovering.

Microneedling is a medical treatment and may not be suitable if you have active skin infections, certain skin conditions, are pregnant, or are using specific medications.

Suitability is always assessed during consultation to ensure treatment is safe and appropriate.

Our approach is controlled and considered, focusing on improving skin quality gradually rather than aggressively treating the skin.

If you would like to discuss whether microneedling is right for you, a consultation allows us to talk everything through calmly and honestly before treatment.
